Texans release RB Jonathan Grimes

The Texans have released rookie running back Jonathan Grimes, leaving them with an open spot on their 53-man active roster.

Grimes, an undrafted free agent from William & Mary, was the Texans' fourth running back behind Arian Foster, Ben Tate and Justin Forsett. He was acquired off waivers from the New York Jets on Oct. 31, at which time Tate was out with a hamstring injury. Tate missed four games with the injury but has now played in each of the last three games.

Grimes appeared in six games with the Texans on special teams. He did not have any carries or receptions. In the preseason, he had 28 carries for 130 yards (4.6 average) and a touchdown before he was signed off the Texans' practice squad by the Jets on Sept. 25.
