Texans sign Ricardo Mathews

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans signed unrestricted free agent NT Ricardo Mathews, it was announced today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Mathews (6-3, 300) has played in 52 regular season games with six starts in his four previous seasons in the NFL, all with the Indianapolis Colts. He has recorded 51 tackles, 1.5 sacks and seven quarterback hits in his career and has also played in four playoff games.

In 2013, Mathews played in all 16 games for the second consecutive season and recorded 18 tackles and a half-sack. Mathews recorded career-highs in 2011 with 19 tackles, one sack, two passes defensed and two tackles for loss.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native was selected by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2010 draft out of Cincinnati.
