The Leftovers: Safeties, Sleepers & Rehabbers

Drew Dougherty answered a few fan questions in the video above. He answered a bunch more in the article below. If you have a burning question for him, Tweet at him. His accoutn is @DoughertyDrew. Don't forget to take out the trash.

Alice Lakavage Newland: Dear Drew, In your opinion, who are five of the biggest "sleepers" on the roster right now?
DD: Bruce Ellington, Will Fuller, D.J. Reader, Seantrel Henderson and Keke Coutee.

Joshua McCarty: Dear Drew, Who do you see starting at safety this year?
DD: I think it'll be Tyrann Mathieu at one spot, and then someone from the lot of Andre Hal, Justin Reid or Kareem Jackson at the other. It's a fluid defense, and really depends on what personnel opposing offenses put on the field.

Hector Y Titta Patino: Dear Drew, Would the Texans sign Dez Bryant?
DD: I doubt it.

Natalie Boone: Dear Drew, I've heard that J.J. Watt is progressing well with his rehab. Is this true?
DD: Yes. He's worked out on the side field with other players coming back from injury, and he's looking good. When we last saw him speak, he was in great spirits and optimistic about 2018.

Debbie Chapa Brannon: Dear Drew, Will there be any SportsRadio 610 TexansRadio/Player Shows this summer?
DD: Good to hear from you, Debbie. According to Marc Vandermeer, that's a "hard maybe". Probably sometime in June, if it happens.

Larry Sanc Robinson: Dear Drew, How strong is the defense compared to last year? Primarily linebackers and secondary?
DD: Both those parts of the defense have been improved. The inside linebackers are solid with Benardrick McKinney, Zach Cunningham and Dylan Cole leading the way. New additions in the secondary like safety Tyrann Mathieu and cornerback Aaron Colvin in free agency, and safety Justin Reid in the Draft bolstered that part of the defense.

Charlie Melton: Dear Drew, Are we on track to have everyone available (premier players) for the Patriots opener ? Foreman, Watson and Watt?
DD: Knock wood, Charlie, yes. Watson has practiced during OTAs, while Watt and RB D'Onta Foreman should be ready to go for training camp. OLB Whitney Mercilus was a full participant this week during OTAs.

Nick Battista: Dear Drew, How will we utilize Joe Webb? Wildcat, backup QB, WR?
DD: YES. Webb will be available in a lot of different roles. You didn't include the special teams aspect, which is where I think he'll have the greatest impact. Upgrading that part of the team has been a HUGE point of emphasis this offseason, and he's been good in coverage the last few years.

Kyle Parker: Dear Drew, Can you make a film room video of JJ Watt?
DD: Sure thing, Broseph. How about THIS?

Joshua Mccarty: Dear Drew, Are u ready for some football #GoTexans
DD: Yes.
