Watt nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week honors

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is a finalist for NFL Rookie of the Week honors for his performance in the team's Week 12 win at Jacksonville.

Fan votes on NFL.com will determine the winner, so place your vote for Watt at NFL.com/rookies. The winner will be announced Friday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. CT. Fans also can watch the winner announced Friday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network.

Watt totaled seven tackles, including five solo stops and two sacks, in the Texans' 20-13 win over the Jaguars. He added one pass defensed when he swatted away a pass attempt in the backfield. On the season, Watt has 39 tackles and 4.5 sacks, which is tied for fourth-best on the team.

Watt is competing with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, Redskins running back Roy Helu, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson for the award.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
