Breakfast: Texans history in Rd 7 of NFL Draft

BWTBheader.jpg

The NFL Draft is just over a month away in Arlington, Texas.

The Texans have eight picks in 2018, but none in the first two rounds. For the past couple weeks, we examined each overall selection the Texans have, and combed through NFL history to see what notable contributors emerged. Those articles are listed above.

Now, it's time to see what the Texans have done, round-by-round, with their Draft picks. They have three in the third, one in the fourth, a trio of sixth-rounders and a seventh. Over the next week, we'll go round-by-round and examine all the Texans picked in the Draft.

When we hit the rewind button and look back at the 19 7th-rounders in team history, the Texans have found some contributors over the last decade.

Colorado State wide receiver David Anderson was a 7th-rounder in 2006, and he wound up starting 10 games in six seasons with the club. He finished with 82 receptions for 895 yards as a Texan, and caught three scores.

A year after Anderson was selected, the Texans chose linebacker Zac Diles out of Kansas State in the seventh round. With 30 starts at weakside linebacker in the 4-3 defense, Diles tallied 164 tackles as a Texan in five seasons with the club.

Troy Nolan was an Arizona State safety who would start seven times for Houston, and pick off three passes in a trio of seasons.

But the two most recent 7th-round success stories are still with the team: right tackle Derek Newton and safety Andre Hal.

The former was picked in 2011, and became a starter in 2012. He's played in 82 games total, with 68 starts.
The latter was a 2014 selection, and has started 22 times at safety. He's picked off six passes in his short career, and scored on a 31-yard interception return in 2015.
