The number 10 jersey of DeAndre Hopkins was ripped on Monday night. The portion below his right underarm was frayed, and hung loosely off his torso.
It was emblematic of the evening for the receiver, as Hopkins shredded the Baltimore secondary for seven catches and 125 yards. His tattered jeresey was the result of a long evening battling what had been the NFL's second-ranked pass defense, as Hopkins drew a pair of defensive pass intereference penalties and three defensive holding calls.
But the personal success meant little to Hopkins, because it came in a 23-16 loss to the Ravens.
"It's frustrating when you lose," Hopkins said. "It's a tough League. We came out and we fought. We just didn't capitalize on some plays."
Hopkins had receptions of 23, 34 and 39 yards in the game, and was targeted a total of 10 times. He cracked the 1,000 yard mark in receiving yards on the season, as a fourth quarter catch for six yards pushed his 2017 total to 1,004.
"He's a great player," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "He was battling. He's a playmaker. He's a great competitor."
While Hopkins had individual success, he was quick to praise his opponents.
"They're a good defense," Hopkins said. "Can't take anything away from those guys. Great coaches. Great scheme. Great players."
With his seven catches, Hopkins moved past Owen Daniels (385) into second place in franchise history. It was also the 17th time in his career to crack the century mark in receiving, and that tied Andre Johnson for the most 100-yard games in a Texans' first five seasons in the NFL.
