Johnny Manziel: Would be "cool" if Texans took me

Johnny Manziel met with the media Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine, and naturally, the Texas A&M quarterback was asked about the possibility of the Texans taking him first overall.

"I think it would be extremely cool," the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner said. "I'm a Texas guy, born and raised in Texas. I've never really left the state. For them to have the first pick means a lot to me."

Surrounded at the podium by a swollen press corps, Manziel explained what makes him a unique

quarterback prospect.

"I play the game with a lot of heart and a lot of passion that really is unrivaled," Manziel said. "It's the way I was brought up, the way that I was taught from when I started playing competitive football in high school."

In a Houston Chronicle article last week by John McClain, Manziel discussed the Texans and how they would regret it if they chose someone else first overall. The Aggie signal caller wanted to clarify some things.

"The main thing I wanted to portray that was more in the subplots of the article," Manziel said.

"Whenever I do get to that team, whenever I am in that organization, each one of those guys is now my teammate, my brother and if I'm on the field with those guys, whatever it takes to be successful to try and get a victory is what I'm going to do."

Texans general manager Rick Smith met with the media shortly after Manziel, and said he had no problem with the Heisman winner's comments about the Texans and the first pick.

"He's a colorful, confident guy," Smith said. "You've got to appreciate that about him. I don't have a problem with that."

Manziel spoke at the start of the noon hour, and head coach Bill O'Brien followed at 12:15. Smith was at the podium at 12:30.
