Kubiak gives updates on Watt, Sharpton, Foster 8/4

Head coach Gary Kubiak gave updates on several players following training camp practice on Sunday.

-ILB Darryl Sharpton returned to practice for the first time after being placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list before the start of camp. He passed his physical exam and was placed onto the active roster Sunday.

"Sharpton's back to work," Kubiak said Sunday morning. "He brought some intensity in practice. That's what Sharp is. He's a banger and it's just great to have him out here. If this kid can stay in one piece, boy he's a heck of a player and he can really help this team. Got our fingers crossed we keep going in the right direction."

-DE J.J. Watt participated in individual drills but was kept out of team contact due to soreness in his elbow. He rested Friday as well and received treatment in it. Watt was wearing the black elbow brace as a precaution and said he would continue to wear it this season during games as well.

"His elbow's just sore. We brought him out here to practice today, wanted to keep him out of contact," Kubiak said of Watt's participation in Sunday's camp. "As y'all could see, the majority of practice was contact. He'll be out here tomorrow, whether we limit his contact tomorrow. He just had a sore elbow."

-NT Daniel Muir and WR Jeff Maehl were full participants in practice. Muir suffered an ankle injury in practice on Thursday. Maehl suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday's practice.

-RB Arian Foster was expected to start practicing Sunday but did not. Foster is listed on the Actice/Physically Unable to Perform list due to a strain in his calf but was kept out of practice due to a sore back instead.

"I was expecting him out. Guys, his calf is fine," Kubiak told the media post-practice. "His back is sore. Hey, keep going day-to-day."

-RB Ben Tate did not practice due to his groin. Kubiak took Tate out of Friday's practice when he complained of soreness in his groin.

"Ben's fine. He's just coming off the groin soreness. Hopefully, he's back tomorrow or the next day," said Kubiak.

-G Brandon Brooks walked off of practice in the morning and will be check again later in the day.
"Yeah, he banged knees with somebody and got sore, so Kap (Head Athletic Trainer Geoff Kaplan) pulled him out," said Kubiak. "So we'll go check this afternoon."

-TE Garrett Graham passed his physical following a virus that had him hospitalized at the beginning of camp. Graham has been removed from the Active/Non-Football Illness List and onto the active roster.
