Practice report: Equal time?

Running back Chris Brown is set for Sunday's game against the Colts.

The Texans practiced outside at the Methodist Training Center Friday morning in preparation for Sunday's contest against the Colts.

Working overtime: After missing game-tying field goal attempts in consecutive games, kicker Kris Brown still has the support of head coach Gary Kubiak.

"I talked to him a lot on Wednesday," Kubiak said. "Like I said, he's a great kid and he works hard at what he does. He obviously struggled the last few weeks. That's part of this league. Good players bounce back and get it done, so we're expecting him to do that."

Kubiak said Brown has gone about improving by working overtime with special teams coordinator Joe Marciano.

"He's done a lot of extra work on his own," Kubiak said. "Nobody knows this trade better than him, so he and Joe are just getting a bunch of extra work. Like I said, we believe in him and expect him to come in and kick well on Sunday."

Split-decision?: Kubiak was asked about the running back position and whether Steve Slaton or Chris Brown would start on Sunday. He anticipates the two to split the carries against Indianapolis and said Slaton's shoulder injury that kept the running back from practicing on Wednesday won't affect his chances of playing in the game.

{QUOTE}"He's fine," Kubiak said. "He came out here Thursday and today and told me he's fine. He practiced fine, so he's ready to go."

Kubiak also elaborated on the amount of playing time Slaton will likely get.

"I'm going to play him and Chris just like I did last week," Kubiak said. "Who actually lines up the first play will probably be determined by what we're doing. They're going to both play."

Health report: Linebacker DeMeco Ryans was back at work today after missing time Wednesday and Thursday because of an ankle injury. Wide receiver Jacoby Jones also practiced with the team as well and appears to be ready for Sunday's game after being inactive against the Titans because of a calf injury.

The news was not as good about defensive tackle Amobi Okoye.

"He's been sick for two days," Kubiak said. "I'm hoping he's okay. He's back home today. He had the flu. He got sick and came in yesterday so we sent him to the hospital yesterday and he's at home today."
