QB to QB: Deshaun Watson hears from Tom Savage

Shortly after the Texans took Deshaun Watson with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Clemson Tiger heard from one of his new teammates.

"Tom Savage was actually the first guy that shot me a text afterwards," Watson said in a Friday press conference at NRG Stadium. "He said 'Congratulations and welcome to Houston. Let's go to work.' He was excited for me to be there, to be able to join the QB room."

Savage started a pair of games for the Texans last season after coming off the bench in Week 15 to guide the Texans to a comeback win over Jacksonville at NRG Stadium. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Thursday night that Savage will be the starting quarterback this season.

Savage was a fourth-round selection for the Texans in 2014.

But Watson didn't just hear from Savage.

"I got a tweet from J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, D.J. Reader, and there were a few other guys that kind of reached out to me," Watson said.

That trio of defenders welcomed the newest Texan to the fold, but O'Brien joked that things would soon change for Watson and the other rookies.

"Those three guys are being nice to you right now," O'Brien said. "When training camp rolls around it might be a different story."

Watson and the Texans begin rookie camp in mid-May. Training camp at The Greenbrier in West Virginia begins at the end of July.
