Texans claim Ioane

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans claimed DT Junior Ioane off waivers from the Oakland Raiders and assigned five players to the practice squad, it was announced today. * *

Ioane (6-4, 320) has played in nine games since being drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Arizona State.

The Houston Texans have also signed the following players to their practice squad:

DE Jason Davis, West Virginia

CB Demarcus Faggins, Kansas State

LS Bryan Pittman, Washington

BLB Shantee Orr, Michigan

DT Keith Wright, Missouri

Faggins played in two games for the Texans during the 2002 season as a sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft. The Texans drafted Wright in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. Davis signed with the Texans (5-1-03) as an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia. The Texans signed Orr (7-30-03), a rookie from Michigan, after he was released by the Packers during the first week of training camp

The only player signed to the practice squad who did not participate in Texans 2003 training camp is Pittman. Pittman spent two seasons in the Northeast Football League before signing with the Cleveland Browns (4-9-03). The Browns released Pittman on May 19, 2003 and resigned him (7-25-03) before releasing him for a second time (8-27-03).
