Gary Kubiak and the Texans' coaching staff will coach the AFC at the 2012 Pro Bowl in Honolulu on Jan. 29. Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers' staff will coach the NFC.

The coaching staff of the highest-seeded team in both conferences to lose in the Divisional Round of the playoffs coaches the Pro Bowl each season.

"It's not the next game we wanted to coach in," Kubiak said Monday in an interview with FOX 26 Sports Houston (KRIV-TV). "We wanted to go to New England (for the AFC Championship Game).

"It'll be exciting. We'll have some of our players there. It's a nice reward for the coaches and their wives to get away and relax a little bit. Hopefully, we'll go there and won't screw them up."

The Texans (10-6 regular season) were the No. 3 seed in the AFC. They lost 20-13 on Sunday to the second-seeded Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. The Packers (15-1) were the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They lost 37-20 to the sixth-seeded New York Giants at Lambeau Field.

Members of the Texans' equipment and training staff also will be going to Hawaii to participate in the week.

The Texans currently have two Pro Bowlers, running back Arian Foster and cornerback Johnathan Joseph. Nine others – outside linebacker Connor Barwin, left tackle Duane Brown, inside linebacker Brian Cushing, tight end Owen Daniels, wide receiver Andre Johnson, kick returner Jacoby Jones, center Chris Myers, defensive end Antonio Smith and defensive end J.J. Watt – are alternates who could play in the game if players selected ahead of them are unable to go.

HoustonTexans.com will be in Honolulu for Pro Bowl week covering the Texans' coaching staff, players and Pro Bowl cheerleader representative Morgan.
