Two Texans players rooting for Clowney

D.J. Swearinger predicts Jadeveon Clowney will destroy quarterbacks and give offensive coordinators nightmares in the NFL.

Johnathan Joseph thinks it would be "historic" to draft Clowney No. 1 overall.

Both Houston Texans have ties to the two-time All-SEC defensive end. Swearinger played alongside Clowney for two seasons when the two were teammates at South Carolina. Joseph and Clowney both grew up in the small town of Rock Hill, South Carolina and remain close family friends.

"For us as a team, you always have to do what's in the best interest for the team," Joseph said in an interview with Texans Radio. "Me personally, I would love to play with a guy like Clowney. He's from my hometown so I'm rooting for him to be the No. 1 pick because that's historic in itself. At the same time, you just think about pairing him with J.J. (Watt) and some of the guys on the defense and things that we can do to be creative with him, using him and J.J. from a defensive standpoint. I just think he can help this team overall."

To show his support for his fellow Gamecock, Swearinger attended Clowney's Pro Day on Thursday. While the media was full of praise for the 6-5 ½, 266-pound defensive end, Swearinger was pleased but not surprised.

"He did what I always expect him to do," Swearinger said afterwards. "Come out here and do what you need to do to get where he wants to get. I think he made a good push for it today."

The Texans are evaluating Clowney and plan to bring him to Houston for a visit later this month.
