Written Dear Drew: Post-Honey Badger edition

Drew Dougherty answered a few fan questions in the video above, and some more in the article below. Try to get 30 minutes of exercise per day. If you can do an hour, even better.

Joshua McCarty: Dear Drew, With Tyrann Mathieu in the backfield and J.J. Watt coming back, along with Aaron Colvin and company, do you see this defense being #1 again?
DD: That's a possibility, Joshua. I certainly think the Texans defense will get more takeaways this season. Last year, they were tied for 27th-worst in the League with just 16 takeaways. They intercepted 11 passes and came up with four fumble recoveries. The special teams unit came away with the other one. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus and company should be able to affect the passer more than the Texans defense was able to last season, and the new additions in the secondary should bolster that as well.

Keeping teams out of the end zone is the key, and getting more takeaways is a simple way to prevent that.

Daniel Fuentez: Dear Drew, When does the NFL officially release the regular season schedule, and at what point does the single tickets go on sell?
DD: Daniel, the NFL schedule comes out in the middle part of April. Last year it was announced on April 20. The year before, it came out on April 14. Single game tickets will be on sale sometime in July. No firm date just yet.

I-Min Michael Mau: Dear Drew, I hope the Texans are not yet done in Free Agency as there are still OTs out there. Why don't they go get that other Cameron dude from the Patriots?
DD: The Texans definitely aren't finished. New GM Brian Gaine said as much last Thursday after signing Colvin and the three offensive linemen. The next day, he acquired CB Johnson Bademosi, WR Sammie Coates and Mathieu.

Cameron Fleming from the Patriots is a possibility.

Fred Frazier: Dear Drew, Backup QB and TE are areas of need. Will we fill these holes in free agency?
DD: At quarterback, yes. Maybe at tight end. Behind Deshaun Watson on the roster right now is Taylor Heinicke. In the past week, Tom Savage signed with the Saints and Josh Johnson became a Raider. T.J. Yates remains a free agent. I think the Texans will bring in a veteran in the next few weeks.

At tight end, there's a decent chance they'll sign a veteran. Ryan Griffin, Stephen Anderson, Ryan Malleck, Zach Conque, MyCole Pruitt and Jevoni Robinson are currently on the roster. Griffin has five years of NFL experience. The other five have combined for four years.

James Garcia: Dear Drewski, Have dates been announced yet for open practices for fans during spring training or training camp?
DD: Hi James, nothing yet. OTA's and minicamp, which are in May and June, are closed to the public. The Texans will likely have an open practice or two for fans in late August when they return from training camp at The Greenbrier. But no announcement's been made on when exactly.

David Valdillez: Dear, Drew sorry I am just too excited for this season to begin. I can't wait can you?
DD: Can't wait, Broseph!

Mike Winston: Dear Drew, With Brian Cushing leaving the team, do you think management will focus on finding a good replacement in the first couple rounds of the draft or do you feel we will focus on replacing his position in free agency later down the road?
DD: Mike, I don't see that happening in the Draft. The Texans have invested second round picks in Benardrick McKinney (2015) and Zach Cunningham (2017), and they found a gem in undrafted free agent Dylan Cole in 2017. Perhaps in free agency, though.

Derwin Jordan: Dear Drew, Is Taylor Heinicke considered the backup or is he a free agent now that Savage is a Saint?
DD: Derwin, Taylor is under contract. He and Watson are currently the only two quarterbacks on the roster.
