Chief Planning Officer

Biography

Steve Johnson was hired as the Texans Chief Planning Officer in January 2026, marking his second stint with the organization. He previously worked for the Texans from 2020-2024 in a variety of roles in football operations prior to serving as the CEO and President of McNair Interests from 2024-2026.

In his current role, Johnson is responsible for driving strategic planning, organizational development, and forward-looking initiatives that support the club's long-term business objectives and operational success, including a strong focus on Toro District.

Prior to being hired as a consultant with the Texans in August 2020, Johnson spent more than 20 years in the U.S. Army. Most recently, he served as a Battalion Commander in Fort Hood, Texas where he led 635 Soldiers with full responsibility for work assignments, scheduling, performance review, disciplinary action, and long-term career planning, development, and promotion. Johnson served in a variety of leadership roles during his time with the Army, beginning his postgraduate career as a Platoon Leader in 2000.

Originally from Lompoc, CA, Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from West Point and an MBA from Rice Business School. He and his wife, Tracy, have two kids, Warner and Cadence.
