Brian Cushing feels better, starts concussion protocol

Not even a concussion could stop Brian Cushing from attending the team's Monday meetings. Feeling better, Cushing was ready to begin preparation for next Sunday's game at San Francisco. He will also undergo the NFL's five-stage concussion protocol this week.

"Cushing came out of the game with a concussion, like I told you all," head coach Gary Kubiak said in his press conference Monday. "He's feeling much better today, so he starts the protocol process. I couldn't begin to tell you exactly where he's at in that process. He was a part of the meetings. He was a part of everything that we were doing."

After leaving in the third quarter, Cushing would not return for the remainder of Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to Seattle.

The five-year veteran linebacker recently signed a six-year contract extension and leads the Texans defense this season with 44 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits, and a touchdown. Cushing also added his first forced fumble of the year in the second quarter against Seattle.
