DB's, Ka'imi Fairbairn and impact players | Dear Drew

Got a question about the Texans? Life in general? Drew Dougherty's your guy. He's been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking HERE!

Crushed Ice: Dear Drew, Thoughts on Keion Crossen?
DD: I think he's been a really good special-teamer and provided help at the corner spot over the past couple seasons. In 2019, he was a key part of a coverage unit that saw over half the punts downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He's fighting to contribute at corner as well. Crossen is upbeat, really positive and a good interview, as well. He's having a solid start to training camp.

German Texan: Dear Drew, How is Ka'imi Fairbairn doing?
DD: Good. He drilled a 58-yarder with plenty of room to spare in yesterday's practice. He's entering year five as the Texans' starting kicker, and special teams coordinator Frank Ross is enthused to have Fairbairn as the guy.

Brody from England: Dear Drew, Do you think Whitney Mercilus is going to have an impact this season?
DD: He'll definitely have an impact. He's been with the first team defense throughout the start of camp. After 10 years as an outside linebacker in the NFL, he's back to defensive end, which is what he played in college. He said one of the biggest adjustments was being able to see less of the offense because he's playing in a 3-point stance, as opposed to standing up as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

James: Dear Drew, Where is Deshaun Watson?
DD: He's been in pads and done some drills with the Texans each of the last couple days.

Alejandro: Dear Drew, Will Deshaun Waston play on Saturday?
DD: Doubt it. General manager Nick Caserio was on SportsRadio 610 AM this morning with Sean Pendergast and Seth Payne, and he said Watson was unlikely to play at Green Bay.
