DeAndre Hopkins gaining confidence

DeAndre Hopkins, who had five receptions for 66 yards against San Diego, made big strides this week in practice. Hopkins has been catching up after missing the second half of preseason with a concussion.

"The first steps this week that were an improvement is he's been much better from a mental standpoint of practice," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's handled the game plan better. So that's been an improvement right there. I just think our confidence in putting him in situations to make some plays, but he did some good things last week."

Despite being shown a regular game plan in preseason, players attend meetings and are asked to go immediately to walk-throughs and implement what they have learned. The steep learning curve can be overwhelming for rookies.

"He walked in and got a game plan this Wednesday and it didn't scare the heck out of him like it did the week before," Kubiak said. "I think he's learning to catch up and the more comfortable he gets, the more plays he's going to make."
