On October 6, 1999 the NFL awarded its 32nd franchise to Robert C. McNair and the city of Houston. Going forward, this is a day that we reflect and honor the memory and the legacy of our organization's Founder and CEO Robert C. McNair. It is a tradition for the Houston Texans to participate in community outreach throughout Houston.
This year, the Texans were able to create a memorable experience in the lives of Houston ISD second graders. We were given the opportunity to read to the students during their virtual school day. Reading and education is such an important key to success. I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to volunteer to read at one of HISD's "sanctuary sites," a church that serves as a learning center for children without technology in their homes. TORO and l went to Trinity United Methodist Church to read with many of these amazing students in person. They were given T-shirts that they proudly wore, and were able to dance before we read Smitty Tackles Bullying written by Houston Texans Legend, Wade Smith. It was heartwarming to be able to interact, with and see these students so excited and eager to read. This will be a day that I will always remember.
It is such an honor to be able to continue Mr. McNair's Legacy, in giving back to the community and promoting literacy. We Are Texans!
