George Godsey to coach QB's

The Texans named George Godsey as their new quarterbacks coach. It will be the third time in their careers that head coach Bill O'Brien and Godsey have worked together, in addition to their stints with the the New England Patriots and at the collegiate level with Georgia Tech.

During his final season in New England, O'Brien hired Godsey as his offensive assistant. In 2012 and 2013, Godsey served as the Patriots tight ends coach on Bill Belichick's staff. With Godsey as his position coach, Rob Gronkowski scored more touchdowns than any other tight end in the NFL and led in average yards per reception (14.4) despite playing just 11 games in 2012.

During his senior season as quarterback at Georgia Tech, Godsey played for O'Brien, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Yellowjackets in 2001. Godsey led Georgia Tech to a 9-2 season and an appearance in the Peach Bowl but tore his ACL in the game. He completed 241 passes for 3,085 yards and broke two regular season Tech records in 2001.

In his two years as starting quarterback, Godsey set the school record for career completion percentage (.633) and compiled a 17-8 record with two bowl games. In his 23 regular season games, he had 41 passing touchdowns and six rushing touchdowns.

After two seasons in Arena League Football with the Tampa Bay Storm, Godsey began coaching and joined the University of Central Florida as an offensive assistant in 2004. He spent seven seasons there, coaching running backs in 2009 and 2010 before becoming quarterbacks coach from 2005-2008.

The Tampa Bay native comes from a family of football players. Godsey's father John played for Bear Bryant at Alabama. Both of his brothers played football at the collegiate level. Godsey's older brother was at Air Force and his younger brother played quarterback and tight end at Notre Dame.
