Johnson improves, likely a game-time decision on Sunday

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Thursday that wide receiver Andre Johnson will probably be a game-time decision in Week 8.

Johnson, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, made improvement in practice on Thursday. But the two-time All-Pro said he still felt some tugging in his right leg, the main obstacle in the way of his return from a three-week absence.

"I felt a lot better in practice, but not where I want to be," Johnson said. "Like I said, I just hope to keep getting better every day.

"When you're not where you want to be, that's a little bit discouraging, but I'm encouraged. I improved from where I was at yesterday, so that's a good thing."

Johnson is not sure if he will play this week against the Jaguars, and he's not sure when that decision will be made.

"I'm not going to go out there and play unless I feel comfortable," he said. "If I don't feel like I can play, I'm not going to go out there. I definitely won't do anything to put myself in any danger."

Johnson did say that he pushed himself a little harder on Thursday, doing a couple of 1-on-1s with defensive backs that he didn't do on Wednesday.

"He was better today," Kubiak said. "He told us that he felt better. We kind of approached him in practice the same way. He had his normal day of practice, probably a little bit less than his normal reps he would take on a given Thursday.

"We took another step forward, but I think we got to continue to look tomorrow and it's probably going to be a game-time decision. Like I said, we'll continue to listen to him."
