Texans head coach Gary Kubiak updated the media about the health status of quarterback Matt Schaub.
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak gave his players the day off Monday. At 3:30 p.m., Kubiak took questions from the media during his weekly press conference at Reliant Stadium.
Schaub, others injury updates: Kubiak's press conference began with a question about quarterback Matt Schaub's dislocated left shoulder.
"Basically, he has the same injury that he had against Tennessee last year," Kubiak said. "It popped out, popped back in, he was able to come back and play. Obviously, a great gut check on his part."
Kubiak said Schaub has a "good chance" of playing Sunday against Seattle, and that the quarterback was "not feeling any worse today than he did yesterday as he finished the game."
Running back Steve Slaton will see a specialist in Dallas on Tuesday for the neck/shoulder injury that kept him from playing against the Jaguars.
Rookie cornerback Glover Quin also is day-to-day, according to Kubiak, because of the concussion he suffered in Week 12 against the Colts.
"He worked out before the (Jacksonville) game and came out of that okay," Kubiak said.
{QUOTE}Kubiak also said defensive end Tim Bulman will "miss some time" with a hamstring injury and that defensive tackle Shaun Cody and linebacker Xavier Adibi are fine. The latter two defenders were injured Sunday against the Jaguars.
Penalty problem: The Texans drew the yellow flag from officials a total of six times Sunday for 37 yards. That was an improvement over the previous three games, but Kubiak said they came at inopportune times.
"They were very significant from a standpoint of when they happened in the game," Kubiak said. "Once again, we had two special teams penalties, which has kind of been an issue for us. We had a big false start on fourth-and-three down in the red zone. Obviously, the reason we're losing some close football games is because we're the team that's making some of the big mistakes at crucial times in the game, whether it's a turnover, whether it's a big penalty."
Run-game differences: In 2008, Slaton gained more than 1,200 yards on the ground. This season, Slaton leads the team with 437 yards rushing, going for just 3.3 yards per carry.
When asked about the reasons for why the Texans haven't been able to establish a consistent ground attack, Kubiak attributed some of it to the injuries to guards Chester Pitts, Mike Brisiel and tight end Owen Daniels.
"I think we've been adjusting all year long offensively," Kubiak said. "You start with our guards and then you go to O.D. three weeks ago. Now, we get another adjustment with Steve, obviously, so to pinpoint it on one thing, I don't think you can do that."
Despite the injuries, Kubiak said the Texans can't use them as an excuse.
"This game is about adjustments," he said. "It's about if you're missing a back or a tight end, you may have to throw the ball more. You may have to go to different personnel. You've got to find a way to move the ball and score points.We've still got to find a way to stay balanced as a team."
