LB chatter & more | Dear Drew

Got a question about the Texans? Life in general? Drew Dougherty's your guy. He's been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking HERE!

Derwin Jordan: Dear Drew, Will Zach Cunningham return this week?
DD: Yes, Derwin. The linebacker was on the Reserve/COVID-19 list over the last week, but he was activated from it earlier today. In Week 3 against the Panthers, he finished with 14 tackles in the loss. He had seven apiece in each of the first two weeks. In Buffalo without Cunningham, Christian Kirksey and Kamu Grugier-Hill took the bulk of the snaps at LB, as the former logged 63 snaps and the latter was in on 61 snaps. The next-most snaps at LB came from Joe Thomas with 18.

Sid from YouTube: Dear Drew, Why is the O-line not creating any holes in the run game? There was so much emphasis on run game this offseason.
DD: It's a great question, Sid. You're right: the Texans said time and again throughout the offseason, preseason and now in the regular season how important it would be for them to run successfully. They've been very frustrated and have said so publicly how they need to correct it. In Week 1, the Texans carried the ball 41 times for 130 yards, but since then, Houston's struggled mightily to get anything going on the ground. They averaged just 2.7 yards per carry in the loss at Buffalo, and Head Coach David Culley explained what the Texans have to do to start running the ball better.

"We've got to quit getting penalties, and if we start to be more consistent and not get in those things and get behind the sticks, that we can do what we did the first game-and-a-half of being able to be effective running the ball," Culley said.

Derwin Jordan: Dear Drew, What is Tyrod Taylor's target date to return?
DD: There's no "target" per se, but on Monday, Culley said the Texans will "hopefully get him back here in the next couple weeks." Taylor can come off IR and play next week at Indianapolis at the soonest, and it sounds like there's a good chance of that happening.
