Nick's Notes: Texans third-day draft picks

The Texans drafted five players on the third and final day of the 2013 NFL Draft on Saturday: Connecticut outside linebacker Trevardo Williams in the fourth round (124th overall) and tackle David Quessenberry (176th), Jakcsonville State wide receiver Alan Bonner (195th), Bowling Green defensive tackle Chris Jones (198th) and Connecticut tight end Ryan Griffin (201st) in the sixth round.

Quick notes on the newest Texans:

  1. Williams was born in Jamaica and lived there until he was nine years old. He moved to the United States in 1999 and attended Bridgeport Central High School in Connecticut.
  1. Williams ran the 100 meters in high school. He said on a conference call Saturday that his best time was 10.58 seconds, but "that was when I was way skinnier." He placed second in the Connecticut Class LL state championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He also placed second (10.94) in the New England championships in 2007 and fourth (11.01) in 2006.
  1. Quessenberry is from a football family. His younger brother, Paul, is a sophomore second-string defensive end and linebacker for Navy. Their younger brother, Scott, just finished his senior season as an offensive and defensive lineman at La Costa Canyon (Calif.) High School and will play at UCLA in 2013. Their father, David Sr., graduated from the Naval Academy in 1980 and played football for the Midshipmen
  1. Quessenberry's father spent 30 years in the military, the final 22 as a Navy Reserve, and retired as a captain in 2010.
  1. Bonner was the ninth player ever drafted from Jacksonville State and the first since 1991, when defensive back Darrell Malone went in the sixth round (162nd overall) to the Kansas City Chiefs.
  1. Jones was the fifth Bowling Green player, and the first Bowling Green defensive player, to be drafted since 1995.
  1. Williams and Griffin are the fifth pair of college teammates drafted by the Texans in team history. The others: tackle Duane Brown and linebacker Xavier Adibi (Virginia Tech, 2008), safety Glenn Earl and cornerback Vontez Duff (Notre Dame, 2004), tight end Bennie Joppru and quarterback Drew Henson (Michigan, 2003) and quarterback Dave Ragone and safety Curry Burns (Louisville, 2003).
