TEXANS TEAM NOTES

THE TEXANS:

  • Scored a season-high 41 points, Houston's highest point total since a 41-29 win over Detroit in Week 12 of the 2020 season
  • Scored 24 points in the fourth quarter, the second-highest fourth quarter point total in franchise history and most since Week 7 of the 2007 season vs. Tennessee (29 points)
  • Recorded 437 yards of total offense, the team's second-highest total of the season
  • Posted with 189 rushing yards, the team's highest total since rushing for 216 yards at Jacksonville in Week 9 of the 2019 season
  • Finished 9-13 (69 pct.) on third-down attempts, the offense's second-best mark of the season
  • Recorded six plays of 20-plus yards, tied for the team's highest total of the season (Week 1 vs. Jacksonville)
  • Forced three turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble recovery), marking the fourth game with three-plus forced turnovers this season. Have now forced 24 turnovers on the year, tied for the seventh-highest total in franchise history through a season's first 15 games
  • Scored a defensive touchdown on a 48-yard interception return, the team's first defensive score since Week 12 of the 2020 season at Detroit
  • Converted a field goal attempt of 50-plus yards for the third consecutive game, the longest streak in franchise history
  • Held a 34:52 – 25:08 time of possession advantage, the team's second-best mark of the season

SCORING PLAYS:

  • 1st Quarter – RB Rex Burkhead ran for a 25-yard touchdown, capping off an eight-play, 75-yard drive (4:30), giving the Texans a 7-0 lead after K Dominik Eberle converted the extra point attempt
  • 2nd Quarter – K Dominik Eberle connected on a 51-yard field goal attempt, finishing off a 12-play, 42-yard drive (6:04), cutting the Chargers lead to 12-10
  • 2nd Quarter – WR Chris Conley caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from QB Davis Mills to conclude a seven-play, 94-yard drive (3:30), giving the Texans a 17-12 lead after K Dominik Eberle converted the extra point attempt
  • 4th Quarter – RB Rex Burkhead ran for a 1-yard touchdown, finishing a 13-play, 75-yard drive (7:05), extending the Texans lead to 24-15 following the converted extra point attempt by K Dominik Eberle
  • 4th Quarter – K Dominik Eberle connected on a 25-yard field goal attempt, capping off an eight-play, 40-yard drive (3:54) to extend Houston's lead to 27-15
  • 4th Quarter – WR Nico Collins caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from QB Davis Mills to conclude a seven-play, 72-yard drive (3:18), extending the Texans lead to 34-23 following the converted extra point attempt by K Dominik Eberle
  • 4th Quarter – DB Tavierre Thomas intercepted a pass from QB Justin Herbert and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, extending the Texans lead to 41-23 after K Dominik Eberle connected on the extra point attempt

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:

  • The following five Texans players were inactive for the game: WR Danny Amendola, OL Carson Green, RB David Johnson, DB Terrance Mitchell and QB Deshaun Watson
  • The following Texans were captains: RB Rex Burkhead, DB Tremon Smith and DB Tavierre Thomas
  • The following Texans did not play in today's game: OL Jake Eldrenkamp and QB Tyrod Taylor
  • The following five Texans made their NFL debut in today's game: WR Jalen Camp, DL Michael Dwumfour, K Dominik Eberle, FB Paul Quessenberry and OL Jordan Steckler. Three additional players made their Texans debut: DL Ron'Dell Carter, LB Josh Watson and DL Xavier Williams

TEXANS PLAYER NOTES

RB REX BURKHEAD

  • Finished with a career-high 149 rushing yards on 22 carries (6.8 avg.) and tied his career high with two rushing touchdowns
  • Ran for a 25-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Texans a 7-0 lead
  • Ran for a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to extend the Texans lead to 24-15
  • Recorded a 36-yard run in the fourth quarter, marking the longest rush of his career

WR NICO COLLINS

  • Finished with three receptions for 33 yards (11.0 avg.) and one touchdown
  • Caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from QB Davis Mills in the fourth quarter to extend the Texans lead to 34-23, his first career touchdown reception

WR CHRIS CONLEY

  • Led the team with 60 receiving yards on three receptions (20.0 avg.) with one touchdown
  • Caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from QB Davis Mills in the second quarter, his longest reception of the season, to give the Texans a 17-12 lead

DL MICHAEL DWUMFOUR

  • Made his NFL debut and started at defensive tackle, recording three tackles (two solo), a half-sack, a quarterback hurry and a tackle for loss
  • Split a sack with DL Chris Smith on QB Justin Herbert for a loss of eight yards in the third quarter, the first half-sack of his career

K DOMINIK EBERLE

  • Made his NFL debut, kicking two field goals on three attempts and converted five point-after tries to finish with 11 points
  • Made a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 12-10. Became the sixth NFL player since the 2000 season and the first in Texans history to connect from 50-plus yards on his first career field goal attempt
  • Connected on a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend the Texans lead to 27-15

LB NEVILLE HEWITT

  • Led the team with 11 tackles (eight solo), tied for the third-highest total of his NFL career

P CAMERON JOHNSTON

  • Punted one time for 53 yards, marking the first regular-season game appearance of his career (63 total games) with one-or-fewer punts

TE BREVIN JORDAN

  • Caught four receptions for 56 yards (14.0 avg.), both career highs, with a career-long 27-yard reception in the third quarter

DB DESMOND KING II

  • Finished with seven tackles (all solo), tied for his second-highest total of the season

QB DAVIS MILLS

  • Completed 21-of-27 passes (77.8 pct.) for 254yards, two touchdowns and a 130.6 passer rating, the second-highest rating of his career
  • Brought his season total to 2,200 passing yards, joining David Carr (2,592 passing yards in 2002) as the only rookie quarterbacks in Texans history to eclipse 2,000 passing yards
  • Threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to WR Chris Conley in the second quarter to give the Texans a 17-12 lead
  • Threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to WR Nico Collins in the fourth quarter to extend the Texans lead to 34-23

DB JONATHAN OWENS

  • Finished with four tackles (one solo), one interception, a pass defensed and a fumble recovery
  • Intercepted QB Justin Herbert for a five-yard return in the second quarter, marking his first career interception
  • Recovered a fumble forced by DL DeMarcus Walker from RB Justin Jackson in the fourth quarter and returned it for six yards, marking his first career fumble recovery

DL CHRIS SMITH

  • Finished with two tackles (one solo) and a half-sack
  • Split a sack with DL Michael Dwumfour on QB Justin Herbert for a loss of eight yards in the third quarter

DB TREMON SMITH

  • Started at cornerback for the second time this season and tied a career high with four tackles (three solo)
  • Lined up at running back and rushed for a 7-yard carry on offense in the third quarter, the first rushing attempt of his NFL career

LB CONNOR STRACHAN

  • Finished with two tackles (both assisted) and a tackle on special teams
  • Recorded his first NFL tackle in the first quarter, combining with LB Garrett Wallow to bring down Chargers RB Justin Jackson after a 2-yard rush

DB TAVIERRE THOMAS

  • Finished second on the team with eight tackles (six solo), tied for the third-highest total of his career
  • Intercepted a pass from QB Justin Herbert and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown, his second interception of the season and first career score

DL DEMARCUS WALKER

  • Made two tackles (one solo) and forced a fumble from RB Justin Jackson that was recovered by DB Jonathan Owens in the fourth quarter, the second forced fumble of his career
