The Texans took an early 7-0 lead against the San Diego Chargers after a quarterback keeper play by Brock Osweiler. The touchdown drive began at the Houston 28-yard line with 1:27 left in the first quarter. Houston converted two third downs to extend the drive.

On the first play of the series, Akeem Hunt rushed along the left side for 16 yards. On third-and-4, Will Fuller V caught a 33-yard pass to get the Texans into a goal-to-go situation at the six-yard line. A defensive pass interference call opposite DeAndre Hopkins moved the ball to the two-yard line. After a one-yard gain by Lamar Miller, Brock Osweiler leaped over the middle for a one-yard touchdown.

It was Osweiler's first rushing touchdown as a Texan and the second of his career, to cap off a 10-play, 72-yard drive that lasted 5:16.
