Robinson: "I want to retire a Texan"

Cornerback Dunta Robinson said on Saturday that he wants to come to a long-term deal with the Texans.

Cornerback Dunta Robinson, who has been holding out from offseason workouts, returned to Houston last weekend to help Texans teammates Andre Johnson and DeMeco Ryans put on a youth football camp.

Since he received the franchise tag, Robinson has been working out at a training facility in New Jersey while his agent negotiates a new contract with the Texans.

{QUOTE}Between drills, Robinson gave the media an update on his contract situation, saying he felt betrayed when the team used the tag on him.

"You have to understand that it's a business and it's nothing personal," Robinson said. "The only thing that I took personally was something that wasn't true, and that was getting the franchise tag. That was the only thing that I took personally out of the whole situation.

"You have to go about your business the same way the organization goes about theirs. Just like they are an organization, you are a one-man organization. You've got to do what's best for you, and that's what I am trying to do. It's not about attitude or who owes me this or who owes me that. It's about getting what you think you deserve, and that's what I am trying to do."

Robinson said he still hopes to reach a long-term agreement with the Texans and that he would like to return to Reliant Stadium "as soon as possible."

"I want to re-start conversations with them, just to see if we can come to some type of conclusion," Robinson said. "Because at the end of the day, football is what I love to do.

"This is the team that gave me the opportunity to showcase my talents, so I definitely want to be a part of it. I'd love to retire a Texan."

The cornerback has been in constant communication with his teammates who have supported him throughout his absence.

"My teammates have always been supportive of me," Robinson said. "I still talk to those guys on a daily basis. It's just a great feeling when you know that the guys in the locker room care about you. I am ready to get something done as soon as possible, whichever way we go, so that I can get back out there with my teammates. I miss those guys more than anything, so it's time to get back out there."

Robinson's teammates feel the same way

"When you are around your teammates and you have guys missing, it doesn't feel the same, especially when you have a close relationship with that teammate," Johnson said. "Dunta and DeMeco are definitely guys that I am hanging out with a lot. When they are not around, it doesn't feel the same."

Ryans missed the first two weeks of the Texans' offseason workout program due to contract disputes, but he decided to re-join the team and let his agent handle negotiating a long-term deal. The Pro Bowl linebacker said he also appreciated the support he received from the players and believes Robinson will be back when it is time to suit up.

"It means a lot to have that support, because we are a family and we are around each other all day, every day," Ryans said. "You really grow close to guys. We are just one big family, so we look out for each other and have that love and support for each other.

"We definitely need Dunta, and I know he is going to be ready to roll when the season comes around. We know we can depend on him. He just has to take care of the business side."
