Stanford LB Peter Kalambayi drafted in 6th round

The Texans added to their defense in the sixth round, selecting Stanford linebacker Peter Kalambayi 214th overall on Saturday.

The 6-3, 252-pound defender joins a trio of former Stanford standouts on the Texans roster in outside linebacker Brennan Scarlett, as well as defensive backs Johnson Bademosi and Justin Reid.

Kalambayi, who was a team captain in college, was appreciative of the chance to become a Texan.

"It's just a great feeling," Kalamayi told the Houston media on a conference call. "I've worked so hard and I've been playing football since I was nine years old."

Kalambayi said he played his high school ball in North Carolina with Texans offensive lineman Kendall Lamm.

He's looking forward to playing in a Romeo Crennel defense that shares some similarities with the one in which he played in college.

"I have experience playing outside in a 3-4," Kalambayi said. "I played a little bit more end in college, but our base defense was a 3-4 so I had a lot of experience setting the edge."

In his four years at Stanford, Kalambayi tallied 18.5 sacks and 27 tackles for loss.
