Starting QB undetermined for Week 7 at KC

Houston's quarterback for next Sunday's game at Arrowhead Stadium could be any one of three players.

With starter Matt Schaub battling an injury, both backups will be preparing this week in practice.

"Here's what I'll do," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I think Matt's going to be an end of the week decision one way or the other. I'll prepare both Case (Keenum) and T.J. (Yates) and we'll go from there at the end of the week. I think Matt's going to be the end of the week before we know anything, so I'll prepare the other two to play."

Matt Schaub left in the third quarter of the Houston's 38-13 loss to St. Louis. Schaub was injured on a sack and did not return to the game.

"Matt is actually getting some injections as we speak," Kubiak said during Monday's press conference. "Obviously, he's very sore and beat up on the leg, ankle, everywhere."

Yates was 12-for-17 with 98 yards passing and two interceptions in Week 6. He also played the entire fourth quarter in Week 5 at San Francisco. Keenum, third on the quarterback depth chart, has yet to take a snap during the regular season but will get an opportunity to practice this week. Focused on the game plan, Kubiak said he would not prepare Keenum any differently than Yates.

"Well, he's come a long way," Kubiak said regarding Keenum. "He's got the arm to make all the throws. He moves pretty good as a player. I think he's come a long way as far as his smart and understanding our system. He's been working extremely hard. So we'll see where we're at."
