Texans claim OLB Paul Hazel, cut Frierson

The Texans claimed outside linebacker Paul Hazel off waivers on Thursday and cut inside linebacker Evan Frierson.

Hazel spent the 2013 season with the Cleveland Browns. He was signed by Jacksonville following the 2013 NFL draft after being undrafted out of Western Michigan.

Hazel, 6-foot-5 and 227 pounds, played 49 games with 19 starts at WMU. He posted 104 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. During the 2012-13 season, he also saw action on the college basketball team.

Frierson signed with the Texans on May 10, but was placed on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury before the start of preseason.

The roster moves come just days before free agency, which begins on March 11.
