The Texans officially released Ryan Mallett on Tuesday.
In Monday's press conference, head coach Bill O'Brien said he and executive vice president and general manager Rick Smith were discussing options after Mallett reportedly missed a team flight to Miami.
Houston acquired Mallett in a trade with the New England Patriots on Aug. 31, 2014. He re-signed with the team in March. Mallett started four games for the Texans and saw action in six contests this season.
