On Tuesday, the Texans will travel to The Greenbrier, the site of Houston's 2017 training camp, for the first time in franchise history. Before players take the field on Wednesday, here are some fun facts to know about training camp in West Virginia and The Greenbrier.
-The Texans will take two planes to and from West Virginia to accommodate the large travel party, which includes 90 players at the start of camp.
-The airport in Lewisburg, West Virginia is rarely used for commercial flights.
-The average temperature in White Sulphur Springs, where The Greenbrier is located, is a 82 degrees during this time of year.
-Approximately 200 Texans staff credentials are needed to cover/work training camp at The Greenbrier (about 100 more will be issued for the Houston practices).
-75 credentials were issued for all the national and local media that will attend one or more of the 15 Greenbrier practices.
-Texans Radio will be on the air (not including game days) for 40-plus hours.
-Texans TV will produce 20 digital shows and 5 over the air.
-At least five players will celebrate birthdays during camp at The Greenbrier: Brennan Scarlett (July 31), Treston Decoud (Aug. 1), Kevin Johnson (Aug. 5), Eric Lee (Aug. 6) and Shane Lechler (Aug. 7).
How much do you know about The Greenbrier? Here are some details about the Texans "home" for the next three weeks.
-The Greenbrier has state-of-the-art training facility with a multi-purpose Sports Performance Center, which includes two grass fields, one artificial surface field and a training facility.
-The New Orleans Saints held training camp at The Greenbrier for the past three seasons (2014-16).
-The Greenbrier underwent a $250 million restoration and is now home to The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour FedEx Cup event.
-It offers over 20 dining and lounging areas.
-The Greenbrier has 710 hotel rooms and more than 2,000 employees.
-The Greenbrier guest list includes 26 of our country's 45 Presidents.
-The Greenbrier offers more than 55 unique activities at the 11,000-acre resort, including four championship golf courses, one of the world's most celebrated spas, shopping, gaming, equestrian sports, fishing, off-road driving and more.
Texans Radio will broadcast live from The Greenbrier Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. during training camp. Texans Training Camp Live begins Wednesday and can be heard on SportsRadio 610 and HoustonTexans.com.
