The Houston Texans and USAA recognized veterans for their selfless service throughout Salute to Service Week presented by USAA.

For the past 10 years, the Houston Texans have partnered with Operation Finally Home to surprise a wounded, ill or injured military hero and their family with a home, building homes and hope for these heroes. To celebrate the lives that have been changed through this partnership, the Texans and USAA are inviting 11 families who have received houses to NRG Stadium for a special private family field day on the field of NRG Stadium leading up to Thanksgiving. Families watched a video commemorating 10 years of surprises, received $500 gift cards for groceries for Thanksgiving, Texans goodie bags and enjoy football drills, lunch, games and more.

On Monday, November 22, players, coaches, staff and Lady Texans handed out 200 meals to veterans at the VA Medical Center for Thanksgiving as a part of Salute to Service Week presented by USAA. In addition to meals, we passed out a small gift from the Texans to bring a little comfort to veterans will be in the hospital over the holiday.

At the Texans-Chiefs game, U.S. Army Sgt. Joanna Ellenbeck was surprised with a home courtesy of the Texans, USAA and Operation Finally Home. Ellenbeck thought she was being honored as the game's Salute to Service Moment honoree when the announcer shared even more exciting news – she and her daughter received a custom-built, mortgage-free home!

In honor of Salute to Service Week presented by USAA, we visited service members at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston, visited veterans in the hospital in for Veterans Day and the Lady Texans partnered with USAA and Soldiers' Angels to host a Military Moms Baby Shower for expectant service members, veterans and spouses.

Houston Texans Legends and Cheerleaders served lunch to 150 service members at Ellington Field to thank them and celebrate the Houston Texans Salute to Service Game presented by Bud Light.

More than 100 active military members and USAA came out to Texans Camp to watch practice and attend a Boot Camp at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

The Lady Texans partnered with USAA and Soldiers' Angels to host a Military Moms Baby Shower for expectant service members, veterans and spouses of service members or veterans. Guests were treated to brunch, games and special surprises from the moms-to-be wish lists.

The Houston Texans and USAA joined Operation Finally Home to build a house for U.S. Army Specialist (SPC) Fernando DelPozo and his family. The time finally came for the family to see their new home.

While two NFL teams compete in this year's Super Bowl, the Houston Texans and Kroger's very own Kirby will be competing in the 18th annual Puppy Bowl.

Houston Texans Pup Kirby and MacKenzie, the full-time puppy trainer, visited with CW39 to talk about America's VetDogs, Kroger and the partnership with the Houston Texans as we all train Kirby in becoming a service dog.

On Thursday, the Texans, TORO and Houston Texans Cheerleaders, took part in the Super Turkey Food Drive, part of the 42nd Annual Thanksgiving Super Feast with the City of Houston and City Wide Club of America. Community members had an opportunity to drive up and drop off donation items needed to help feed Houstonians at the SUPER FEAST, also known as "The Nation's Largest Feeding" at the George R. Brown Convention Center. More than 30,000 underprivileged individuals, families, senior citizens, and veterans will be served this holiday season. Learn more here.

The Houston Texans, Andre Johnson and Academy Sports + Outdoors surprised Melissa Alvidrez with a special gift for the holidays. Melissa Alvidrez is the surviving sibling of Octavio Alvidrez, U.S. Navy Veteran who served for 10 years, including tours in the Iraq War, before passing away suddenly in 2015. She volunteers her time in the TAPS Houston Area Care Group, a local survivor support group that provides emotional support and camaraderie for military survivors. She and her mom will be recognized for all they do to support grieving military families in Houston.

The Texans Pup presented by Kroger stopped by to meet Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chair Janice McNair. The Texans Pup, recently named Kirby after a fan vote, is a future service dog from America's VetDogs.
