HS Coach of the Week: Week 1

Cy-Falls' David Raffield and La Marque's Chris Jones were named Texans High School Coach of the Week Award Winners.

This week's Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach David Raffield of Cy-Falls High School. Coach Raffield's Golden Eagles defeated the No. 6 state-ranked Westfield Mustangs 47-45 in a nail-biter. Cy-Falls running back Shane Turner ran wild for three scores and 179 yards on the ground in the victory.

This week's Houston Texans 4A-under Coach of the Week Award goes to Head Coach Chris Jones of La Marque High School. The Cougars came back from a 16-point deficit by scoring 22 fourth-quarter points to beat Ball High School 32-26 in the teams' annual "Clash of the Causeway." Cougars QB Jairus Kerlegan also led the way with 228 passing yards and a touchdown, adding 41 yards on the ground with three additional scores.

Cy-Falls High School and La Marque High School will each receive a $500 grant in their coach's name for winning the Texans Coach of the Week Award. Also, each coach will be recognized on HoustonTexans.com and NFLHS.com, and on the video board at Reliant Stadium. Coach Raffield and Coach Jones will also be invited to the Texans vs. Saints game on November 18 and will be recognized at the Texans High School Coach of the Year Banquet after the season. Fox Sports Net Houston and the US Army are associate sponsors of the Texans Coach of the Week Program.
