This year's Houston Texans 2008 4A-under Coach of the Year award winner is coach Jerry Stewart of Dayton High School. Coach Stewart's Broncos made it all the way to the state finals before losing a high-scoring affair to Sulphur Springs 69-49. Coach Stewart led Dayton to a 13-2 overall record and dominated District 19-4A with a 7-0 record. Coach Stewart is a first-time winner of the Coach of the Year award.

"Winning Coach of the Year is certainly an honor," Stewart said. "I take this humbly to represent all small town football teams in Texas. I truly believe that schools, like Dayton, represent the true spirit of Texas high school football.

"I thank the Texans for recognizing the Dayton Broncos. It was a magical ride in our quest for the Texas State Championship. Although we fell short of the title, the journey itself was truly remarkable. As Augustus Mcrae said in the movie Lonesome Dove, 'It's been a wonderful ride.'"
