Rookies show generosity at Shop with a Texan

The Texans rookie class got to experience some Christmas shopping chaos on Tuesday during the annual Shop with a Texan event.

Thirty children from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston and the Houston Texans YMCA enjoyed breakfast provided by Whataburger and a $100 shopping spree at Academy Sports and Outdoors. Each rookie was assigned four kids, weaving them through the store aisles and assisting as the kids eagerly picked out holiday gifts for themselves and family members.

All four of defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan's youngsters ran off in opposite directions, leaving the rookie searching for his rambunctious kiddos throughout the store.

"It's amazing to be able to give back to the kids and it's something that since I was in high school and a kid myself, I looked up to," Pagan said. "I've always wanted to be able to do something like this and give back. It's all in the name of trying to do something nice."

Something nice, indeed. There were smiles all around at the checkout line, and not just from the children.

"I think we're having fun too, just being able to get out and interact with some kids," Pagan said. "I'm grateful that I'm in the position that I am to be able to do this and to give back."
