HS Coach of the Week: Week 7


Head coach Tony Heath of Pearland High School

This week's Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Week Award goes to head coach Tony Heath of Pearland High School. Pearland stayed undefeated this week as they beat Deer Park 20-9 in a district showdown. The Oilers were led by running back Kasey Carrier who racked up 172 yards on 25 carries and added 2 scores. The Oilers will take on Dobie this week in their season finale.

This week's Houston Texans 4A-under Coach of the Week award goes to head coach Jerry Stewart of Dayton High School. Dayton continued their dominance this season by defeating C.E. King 46-7 this week. Quarterback Cody Green carried the Broncos this week with 248 yards through the air, 127 yards on the ground, and 5 total touchdowns. Dayton will take on Kingwood Park to close out their season.

This week's third Houston Texans Coach of the Week award goes to Head Coach Mark Byrd of Westside High School. The Wolves 28-27 win over Madison puts them in a tie with Madison for second in district 23-5A. The Wolves stopped Madison's two point conversion attempt for the win to take home the victory. Westside will take on Chavez on Saturday to try and improve their playoff seeding.

Pearland High School, Dayton High School, and Westside High School will each receive a $500 grant in their coach's name for winning the Texans Coach of the Week Award. Also, each coach will be recognized on and, and on the video board at Reliant Stadium. Coach Heath, Coach Stewart, and Coach Byrd will also be invited to a Texans home game later on in the season and will be recognized at the Texans High School Coach of the Year Banquet after the season. Fox Sports Net Houston and the US Army are associate sponsors of the Texans Coach of the Week Program.
