Justin Reid wins 10th annual Spirit of the Bull award | Daily Brew

The Houston Texans awarded Justin Reid the 10th annual Spirit of the Bull award during Thursday's virtual Team Kickoff Luncheon. Reid, now in his third season, received the honor for his making an impact in the community as well as on the field.

"The Spirit of the Bull award is probably one of the coolest awards that the Texans organization does," Reid said. "It's a big honor to be recognized for what I do on the field but for what I do in the community. It's a big deal to me to always want to give back, especially work with kids."

Reid has been active in the Houston community, donating game tickets and sideline experiences for children with cancer through his partnership with the Candlelighters Houston, regularly visiting patients at Texas Children's Hospital and creating Justin's Thanksgiving Grocery Grab, a grocery store shopping spree for kids in need.

During the COVID-19 pandemic this offseason, Reid teamed up with Microsoft and H-E-B to donate tablets to medical students and also donated $6,500 to Kid's Meals Houston and packed snack bags for the children in the Houston community.

"Justin is a great example of what it means to have the Spirit of the Bull," head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien said. "This is the organization's highest off-the-field honor for community service and nobody is more deserving than Justin. He does a lot in the city of Houston in the short time that he's been here. He's had a real impact on this city. On behalf of the McNairs and the entire team, we congratulate Justin on the award."

Reid says he is currently working on starting his foundation and plans to continue his community service both in Houston and in his home state of Louisiana.

"To have that award presented by the Texans organization, it's just a great feeling honestly and it's encouraging for me to go out and continue to do the work that I'm doing to make more impact my community here and my community back home," Reid said.

Last year, Reid started 15 games and finished third on the defense with 78 solo tackles (57 solo) and added one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, five passes defensed, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Reid and the Texans will make their 2020 NFL regular season debut on Thursday, September 10 when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. on NBC and SportsRadio 610.
