Meet the Rookie: DT Ross Blacklock

Meet the Texans' second-round draft pick, defensive tackle Ross Blacklock.

-Hometown: Missouri City

-6-3, 290 pounds

-Blacklock is the first TCU player drafted by the Texans in franchise history.

-The native Houstonian attended Elkins High School and was a multi-sport athlete who played football, basketball, baseball, track and field and swimming.

-He chose TCU over Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M.

-His father, Jimmy, is in the University of Texas Hall of Fame for basketball. He was the Longhorns' Most Valuable Player his junior season after leading the team in scoring.

-Jimmy Blacklock was a standout point guard and dribbler for the Harlem Globetrotters from 1974 to 1987 and is now their head coach.

-Blacklock has a few Globetrotter tricks he can do too.

-Ross is the first person in his family to make to the NFL.

-He owns his own brand "Underdawg Mentality" of clothing that represents his lifestyle.

"I wanted to create something for athletes that they can relate to. Everybody has potential. The sky isn't the limit, you can go beyond in how high you want to go in life. That's kind of what it represents."

-Blacklock attended a Texans playoff game when he was younger and says he models his game after J.J. Watt.

"He's an idol of mine. I try to mirror my game after his, so it's going to be surreal just being able to play next to a legend like that. I just want to be a sponge and gain as much knowledge as I possibly can and continue to grow."

The Houston Texans selected TCU DT Ross Blacklock with the eighth pick in the second round (40th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
