Texans and Panthers share several unique connections

The Texans host Carolina on Thursday Night Football at NRG Stadium, and the two clubs share many connections. A handful of those are listed below.

  • Texans K Joey Slye kicked for the Panthers in 2019 and 2020.
  • Panthers CB A.J. Bouye played for the Texans from 2013 through 2016. Carolina WR Alex Erickson was with the Texans throughout this offseason, OTAs, Training Camp presented by Xfinity and preseason.
  • Carolina K Zane Gonzalez was born and raised in Deer Park, Texas.
  • Carolina DL Bravvion Roy was born in Houston played high school ball at Spring.
  • Texans DL Jacob Martin played collegiately at Temple for Panthers Head Coach Matt Rhule, who was the Owls' Head Coach from 2013 through 2016. Martin also overlapped at Temple with the following Carolina players: WR Robby Anderson, DB Sean Chandler, DB Sam Franklin, LB Haason Reddick, TE Colin Thompson and QB P.J. Walker.
  • Texans DB Justin Reid and Panthers RB Christian McCaffery played together in college at Stanford.
  • Panthers QB Coach Sean Ryan was an assistant with the Texans from 2016 through 2018. He also coached in Detroit with Texans WR Coach Robert Prince in 2019 and 2020.
