HOUSTON – The Houston Texans signed free agent FS Kendrick Lewis, it was announced today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Lewis (6-0, 198) saw action in all 16 contests in 2013 for the Kansas City Chiefs, including 15 starts, posting 56 tackles (46 solo), including three for loss, one interception, four passes defensed and two quarterback pressures.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Mississippi, Lewis started 50-of-53 games at free safety in four seasons with the Chiefs, totaling 212 tackles (148 solo), seven interceptions, 26 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Lewis recorded three interceptions in each of his first two seasons in the league, including a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 2011 game at Oakland, the longest return of his career.
The New Orleans, La. native appeared in 44 games (38 starts) at Mississippi, producing 226 tackles (140 solo), six interceptions, 18 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also registered 10 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, two blocked kicks and recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown.
