HOUSTON – Today, the Houston Texans announced DT Mario Edwards Jr. as the team's nominee for the 2025 Salute to Service Award. Each season, the award recognizes players, coaches, staff and alumni from around the NFL who make exceptional efforts to honor and support military and veteran communities.
Edwards, an 11-year NFL veteran, has direct ties to the military as his sister served in the Army. He was able to provide her with support throughout her service to the United States, and over the last two seasons Edwards has extended his support to local Houston veterans.
On Memorial Day of this year, Edwards visited local veterans at the hospital in an effort to brighten their spirits and share life experiences. He was able to connect with several men and women in the hospital's activity room where he played games, signed autographs and took photos. Last year, Edwards also visited the hospital to surprise a deserving veteran, Clarence, with tickets to the Texans' annual Salute to Service game.
To show support for Edwards, fans can vote online beginning today at NFL.com/SaluteFanVote. From now until Sunday, Nov. 30, fans can submit one vote per day to help make him one of this year's three finalists. The finalists will be announced in January and the winner will be recognized at NFL Honors during Super Bowl LX week.
Through the league's Salute to Service initiative, the NFL and all teams from across the league unite to honor, empower and connect with service members, veterans and their families during Weeks 9-11 of the regular season. The initiative will come to life in NFL stadiums across the country through on-field branding and other gameday activations. Visit NFL.com/Salute to learn more.
