QB Ryan Fitzpatrick signs with Texans

The Houston Texans signed free agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, it was announced today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Fitzpatrick (6-2, 223) just completed his ninth season in the NFL.  Originally drafted in the seventh round in 2005 from Harvard University, Fitzpatrick spent the 2013 season with the Tennessee Titans.  He appeared in 11 games with nine starts, throwing for 2,454 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing a career-high 62 percent of his passes.

During his time in the NFL, the Gilbert, Arizona native has thrown for 16,790 yards with 106 touchdown, 93 interceptions and completing 1,555 passes.  He has appeared in 85 games with 77 starts under his belt.  The Texans are his fifth team in the NFL.  His best statistical season came in 2011 when he started 16 games for the Buffalo Bills, passing for career-highs with 3,832 yards and 24 touchdowns.

During his final season at Harvard, Fitzpatrick was the recipient of the Asa S. Bushnell Award, Ivy League Player of the Year in 2004 as he accumulated 1,986 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He led Harvard to a 10–0 record, including a win in the Ivy League Championship.
