A former Kansas Jayhawk, wide receiver Mark Simmons will see a lot of time on special teams as well as on offense.

The Texans bolstered their wide receivers corps Thursday by adding the following two pass catchers to the position group:

NAME POS HT WT NFL EXP COLLEGE
Tim Carter WR 6-0 187 7 Auburn
Mark Simmons WR 5-10 187 1 Kansas

Carter gives the Texans a veteran playmaker who adds needed depth considering some of the recent injuries at the position. He joins Simmons, cornerback Jimmy Williams and tight end Ryan Krause as the team's most recent signings.

"I think that's the first thing that you think about is the experience," general manager Rick Smith said of the two wideouts. "They're guys that understand the game, know how we work and I think are still good football players. In the case of Tim, with (Ryan) Grice-Mullen and Andre (Johnson) nursing a couple of injuries, we needed some more wide receivers and I think he's a guy who could come in and really compete with our group."

The Texans also waived the following player Thursday:

NAME POS HT WT NFL EXP COLLEGE
Arliss Beach RB 5-10 219 2 Kentucky

Additionally, Houston placed the following player on the reserve/injured list with a triceps injury:

NAME POS HT WT NFL EXP COLLEGE
Chukky Okobi C 6-1 305 8 Purdue
