Head athletic trainer Kevin Bastin (left) and strength and conditioning coach Dan Riley (right) will not have their contracts renewed for 2009.

The Texans will not renew the contracts of head athletic trainer Kevin Bastin and strength and conditioning coach Dan Riley, the team announced Tuesday.

General manager Rick Smith thanked both men for their contributions to the team.

"We decided to go in a different direction, but we want to thank them both for their years of service to the Texans and wish them both the best in their future endeavors," Smith said.

Bastin finished his eighth year with the Texans this season and spent the previous 12 seasons as the assistant athletic trainer for the Washington Redskins.

Riley joined the Texans in 2001 and finished his 27th year as a strength coach in the NFL this year. Prior to Houston, Riley worked in the same capacity with the Washington Redskins for 19 seasons.
