With just days to go until the start of the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, most experts think the Texans will select Oregon's Kayvon Thibodeaux third overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 6-5, 258-pound pass rusher logged seven sacks in 2021 as a junior for the Ducks, and 19 in his three years at Oregon.
The Texans own a first round pick for the first time since 2019, and in all, they have nine draft picks. Four of those first nine are in the top 80.
HoustonTexans.com gathered together 41 of the more prominent mock drafts and Thibodeaux was tops for the Texans.
Fourteen of the 41 (34%) mock drafts predicted the Texans would take Thibodeaux. The next most-mocked player to Houston was Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. Nine of the 41 (22%) predicted the hard-hitting defensive back would be chosen by the Texans. Alabama Offensive Lineman Evan Neal and Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson were each mocked to Houston by five (12%) experts.
Of the 41 mock drafts, 78% predicted Houston would take a defensive player.
The Combine begins Monday in Indianapolis, and it's a chance for General Manager Nick Caserio, the personnel staff and scouts, along with the Texans coaching staff to evaluate hundreds of prospects. The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 28 in Las Vegas.
