Emmanuel Cruz, a lance corporal for the U.S. Marines, was a Houston Texans fan stationed in Baltimore with his wife, Brittany. With her birthday coming up, Cruz wanted to take Brittany to see their first Texans and NFL game together, but couldn't afford tickets. So, he took a long shot by reaching out on Twitter.
Wide receiver Kenny Stills saw the tweet and offered to help.
"It's fitting that it was a salute to service month," Stills said. "It's special to be able to do something like that for somebody. I kind of thanked him for reaching out to him on twitter and you know, ask and you shall receive."
Stills and the Texans helped get the Cruz's sideline passes and tickets to Sunday's game against the Ravens. The young couple even had a chance to take pictures and meet Stills in person.
"Really cool to be able to introduce myself and see the smiles on their face, take a picture and tell them to have a good time," Stills said. "Obviously, not the outcome that we were looking for but they were so excited about it and to just have the opportunity to put a smile on someone's face."
The Texans will celebrate their Salute to Service game on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on FOX-26, NFL Network and SportsRadio 610.
