McNair Foundation to match $150k grant to Bum Phillips Charities

HOUSTON, TX**  – In honor of legendary Houston coach Bum Phillips, The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation has agreed to give a matching grant in the amount of $150,000 to Bum Phillips Charities to help make Bum's longstanding dream to open a retreat to serve the hearing impaired a reality.

The Phillips family has requested in lieu of flowers, the public donate to Bum Phillips Charities.  Fans are able to donate at https://www.bumphillipscharities.com or by mailing a donation to: Bum Phillips Charities, 2981 South Riverdale Ln, Goliad, TX  77963.  Once community donations have reached $150,000, the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation will match that amount for a total of $300,000. 
Additionally, all proceeds from the Houston Texans Foundation gameday auction on Sunday night will benefit Bum Phillips Charities.  The auction will take place behind section 140 and closes at the end of halftime. Featured items to include:

A memorial service for Bum Phillips will be held this evening at Lakewood Church at 7:30 p.m. The service will be officiated by former Oilers' player Mike Barber and is open to the public. Special guests include: Joe Green, Dan Patrick, John McClain, Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini, Elvin Bethea, Terry Bradshaw, Mike Reinfeldt, and others.

The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation is a private foundation that was established in 1988. Its primary mission is to find cures to breast and pancreatic cancers, diabetes and neurological problems by funding research by outstanding McNair Scholars at Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson, Texans Children's Hospital, Texas Heart Institute and Menninger Clinic. It also supports programs that will prepare youth through educational means for productive and enriched lives with respect to work, family and service to others.
