Houston Texans running back Steve Slaton was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13, becoming the first Texans offensive player to garner the award this season. Slaton joins wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors in Weeks 6 and 8.

Slaton (5-9, 203) led the Texans to a win in the team's first appearance on Monday Night Football, running for 130 yards on 21 carries and two rushing touchdowns against division rival Jacksonville. He caught two passes for 52 yards, including a career-long 46-yard reception in the third quarter. Slaton's 182 combined yards from scrimmage were the most in his career and were the fifth-most in team history.

"He was exceptional in the game," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He played extremely well, got stronger as the game went on. I'm very proud of him. That's a heck of game by him."

{QUOTE}The West Virginia product scored on a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to push the Texans lead to 20 late in the game. It was Slaton's ninth touchdown overall this season, setting a franchise rookie record.

Slaton has played in five games as a rookie against division opponents and he has totaled 100-plus yards from scrimmage against each. This year against AFC South opponents, Slaton is averaging 134.8 yards from scrimmage per game and has scored seven of his nine touchdowns against the division.

Slaton was selected with the 89th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He becomes the second Texan rookie to earn Player of the Week honors. He joins LB DeMeco Ryans who won the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in 2006.

Slaton also has been nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time this season. Click **here** to vote for Slaton.
