Houston will open the preseason on the road against the Green Bay Packers before hosting the Detroit Lions in Week 2. The Texans will travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys in Week 3 before closing out the preseason by hosting the defending NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams.
Houston will travel to Green Bay for joint practices leading up to the Week 1 preseason game. The matchup marks the first time the Texans and Packers have faced off in the preseason in team history. The two teams have met four times during the regular season with the last meeting coming in Week 13 of the 2016 season.
In Week 2, the Texans will host the Lions in Houston for the teams’ first-ever preseason matchup. Houston and Detroit have met four times in the regular season. The Texans have won three consecutive regular season games against the Lions dating back to 2008, including a 20-13 victory over Detroit in Week 8 of 2016.
The Texans will travel to Dallas in Week 3 to face the Cowboys, which will mark the 11th preseason matchup between the two Texas franchises (2003-05, 2007-08, 2010, 2013, 2015-16, 2018). Houston leads the head-to-head preseason series, 6-4. The Texans and Cowboys met in both the preseason and regular season in 2018, resulting in two victories for Houston. This marks the first time since the 2010 preseason the two teams will play each other in Week 3 of the preseason.
In Week 4, the Texans will welcome the Rams to NRG Stadium to wrap up the preseason. Houston has faced Los Angeles in the preseason twice before and have split the two matchups. The two teams last faced off in Los Angeles in Week 3 of the 2018 preseason.
